Chat Control and Age Verification laws aren't about protecting the children. They're about mass surveillance and rising authoritarianism.

These laws endanger everyone,
including the children,
and including democracy.

If you barely use an account and
don't want to have to give your official ID to use it (which really you should refuse),

Then I recommend you log in as soon as possible to delete it fully from the internal deletion feature :nes_fire:

• Many accounts are easy to delete now from within the account.

• Once you are locked out of your account for refusing to provide an official ID, you might never be able to delete your account and data again.

• If you are already in this situation, and your region is covered by a decent privacy law, you might still be able to have your data deleted with the help of your local Data Protection Authority. Reach out to them.

• Be mindful about your other accounts that may depend on this account for logins or other.

Are there any alternatives to #LinkedIn now that they’re pushing harder and harder for ID verification of their users?

Honestly with the utter shit content on the platform, I’d probably just abandon my account there.

How to add DuckDuckGo (noai) to Google Chrome and Brave

(Also, see my similar post about doing this for Vivaldi - https://infosec.exchange/@scottwilson/115725021729571844, and for Firefox - https://infosec.exchange/@scottwilson/115725250696632578)

If you prefer an AI-free DuckDuckGo Search experience, you can use noai.duckduckgo.com instead of on duckduckgo.com. Searching on noai.duckduckgo.com works the same as search on duckduckgo.com, except all AI features are turned off and AI-generated images are filtered out of results by default.

NOTE: Truly, for better privacy, consider switching to Firefox, LibreWolf, Vivaldi, Brave, or Tor.

1. In Google Chrome or Brave, go to Settings, then Search Engines.

2. Click "Manage search engines and site search".

3. Scroll down to the "Site search" section, and lick the "Add" button.

4. Give it a meaningful name and nickname, and add "https://noai.duckduckgo.com/search?q=%25s" in the URL field.

5. Click "Add", then scroll up a little to the "Search engines" section. Find your new entry, click the three dots next to it, and select "Default" to make this the default search engine.

6. Exit Settings.

In today's episode of I Told You So:

May 2025 ⚠️
"Daily occurrences of data breach incidents have taught us we cannot trust these services to safeguard our data. Data breaches for this sensitive information are only a matter of time.

The concentration of such valuable data will likely be monetized and resold either by the platforms themselves, by the for-profit third-party "age assurance" providers they use, or eventually by the criminals who stole it from them."

Age Verification Wants Your Face, and Your Privacy

Age verification laws forcing platforms to restrict access to content online have been multiplying in recent years. The problem is, implementing such measure necessarily requires identifying each user accessing this content, one way or another. This is bad news for your privacy.

The UK Online Safety Act is a mess. MPs are debating the petition for its repeal now.

ORG calls for a rights-based approach:

Limit its scope to minimise threats to freedom of expression/small sites, and regulate age verification providers to protect privacy.

I couldn't have wished for a better audience! Still lots to do, but today was a start!
