Endless thanks to everyone who supported us already! Let’s show what open and caring federated networks can achieve! 💜🌱

Why Community Matters: Groups as the Next Step for the Fediverse

Federated groups in Bonfire will be spaces where communities gather to organise, care, and coordinate across the fediverse. They'll live next to your personal feed, but each group having a specific purpose: a study circle, a lab team, an activist collective, a local mutual aid crew, a project team. Inside you’ll find posts, conversations, calendars, shared resources, and more. Crucially, groups will be portable and interoperable.

Bonfire: building blocks for communities on the open social web by Bonfire - Indiegogo

From platforms to communities: a federated social web with shared foundations and co‑created spaces for gathering, care, connection, and stewardship.

@bonfire I really really want groups to happen. I see so many opportunities for its application in local communities with moral sense, from schools, daycares, libraries, community hubs, interest clubs, and local businesses, to churches or even just families. Imagine a world where it is easy to have a central space for an organization to come together and share without supporting Meta or some other evil megacorp.

If the fediverse can become a gathering place for communities and not just individuals, what a powerful thing that could be.

I'm out of a job and can't contribute financially but I'm passionate about doing what I can to make this happen, even if it's just boosting posts for now!
