You can refuse to provide official ID or biometric data for social media accounts requiring age verification.

Actually, I bet if everyone did refuse, and let their account dormant for a couple of weeks, you would suddenly see American Big Tech transforming into the fiercest defender of your privacy rights, using their powerful network of lobbyists to fight these invasive government regulations.

They need you more than you need them.
Force them to work for your rights.
Do not comply.

@Em0nM4stodon That will be easier said than done, though it's absolutely doable. Considering the age verification laws (that's really digital ID) coming into play, they'll certainly backfire and be repealed if enough people cause a revolution over it (it'll have to be a quiet one at first, unless a civil war comes into play).

@Em0nM4stodon The masses still don't understand how boycotts and protests work.

After a week of not logging into Meta or Twitter or whatever they'll give up on trying to find a hobby and submit.

Social media sites using biometric ID will absolutely be shared with state border services as evidence to deny entry or brutal detention.

@Em0nM4stodon The problem is while you will see a lot of complaining, most people will fork it over to keep their tiktok, IG, X, etc feeds pouring in. Though you're not wrong...if a majority would cut off the data and ad impression stream.....tech would become very vocal supporters of user privacy in regards to forking over id for verification.

I created LinkedIN account 3 weeks back. Tried to login today and BAM! give us your ID card.
There is no law in India as far as I know to provide ID card. This is so tiresome.

@driftingThoughts @Em0nM4stodon I deleted my FB app on my Handy yesterday as it wanted me to log in with more info! It is so very annoying, but I have stopped using all the others I was subscribed to as well. I refuse to give my data to further these sick oligarchic companies. 🤬

@Em0nM4stodon Big Tech has no interest in our privacy. They've been stealing it for years.
They've been stealing peoples mental health too, at least now their cattle (users) should be old enough to make a better decision.

Unfortunatelly agree with that thing, id verification is not all-way cure.

One my friend has 2 PhD in math and physics and he does not have driver license...

And he does not want to get one.

@Em0nM4stodon Discord - which isn't required to do this under Australian law - has just started demanding Govt ID etc. the same Discord which just leaked 68000 users ID documents, thus proving they are not to be trusted with anything. It is a dystopian nightmare of censorship, incompetence, and bad ideas

@Em0nM4stodon@infosec.exchange Directly relevant to the shopping sites and gaming accounts I use. Straight up just refuse to fill in anything unnecessary, like gender.

My shopping sites keep reminding me to fill in the gender info, and I am like nah, who's holding the (debit) cards here?

@Em0nM4stodon I am currently in the process of trying to documents related to starting employment at a company. They may want my biometrics (i.e. fingerprints) and want to disclose my info (past activities and background) to clients. It says I have to waive my right to privacy; it sounds ugly.

I am wondering if I should find other jobs, but they seem few and far between. This seemed like a chance to get by.

@Em0nM4stodon I've long thought we need some sort of external union like structure to coordinate boycotts and strikes on social networks, so you sign up to the Facebook union and if a strike is called you stop using it. I don't use anything meta but my boycott isn't very effective.

@codinghorror @Em0nM4stodon YouTube just told my YouTube account that it's a child—which excuses you from the "personalized" ads, so I guess that account will never grow up

Screenshot of email from Google, with line art (text follows)

Google couldn't confirm you're an adult, so some account settings have
changed

Check it out

SafeSearch is on Google may hide explicit content, like pornography, from your search results

Personalized ads are off Google won't show you personalized ads

Timeline is off Timeline won't automatically save your visits and routes anymore

Are you an adult?

Verify your age and choose the settings that are right for you
