Last year we highlighted the dangers of real name policies, especially for marginalized groups such as #transgender and gender diverse people. 📝

Kansas enacted a law that invalidates all #trans people’s licenses and IDs, forcing them to obtain a new one with incorrect gender markers. 🪪

⚠️ This is dangerous as having identification documents that don't match their appearance, puts trans people at risk of harassment and discrimination. ⚠️

🏳️‍⚧️ Transgender and gender diverse people from Kansas will effectively have to out themselves to every platform that requires age verification. This is sensitive information that many #trans people guard closely, as being outed publicly can put them at risk of violence and harassment. ‼️

These systems have already shown bias against people of color and gender-diverse individuals. This could create additional hurdles for marginalized communities that often find refuge in online environments. 🏳️‍⚧️
